When I thought about google and the future, I wanted to embody what I thought the world would look like 30 years from now. I imagined hovering wheelchairs, extreme global warming, smart houses, more genetically modified foods, and extreme weather conditions such as: tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. I initially had trouble with putting my thoughts on paper, because I am a beginning artist. For the “G”, I wanted to draw the hovering chair, and the “O’s” I imagined a world on fire in a recycling sign that was starting to be engulfed by the fire. The “G” would be the smart house. The “L” would embody the tornado, and the “E” would be a GMO burger. I feel like this perfectly represents my vision for the future.
What do you think the world will be like in our future?
I was super excited to have the opportunity to create 3D art because it gave me the chance to make art for my dorm room. I chose to do dorm DIYs on canvas boards. My inspiration came from YouTube. The videos taught me everything I need to know to create something cool for my dorm.
I collaborated with others. With the help of 3 friends and Mrs. Schumann, I was able to make an art piece that is amazing. I love hearing feedback about my work and being able to work with people who put in the effort to be helpful. I took risks creating the project. I definitely took my time when it came to the fine details. I wanted to be careful with this canvas so that it would turn into a masterpiece for my dorm. In the beginning, I had the holidays on my mind. I have never truly enjoyed nature but I do love christmas wreaths. I love christmas colors as well. I was inspired by the trees outside to make a wreath. My goals was to make it look as close to the one my mom hangs up every year on the door. While trying to achieve my goal, I remembered how much I do not like nature. Leaves were poking me and dust was everywhere. I loved grabbing the berries off the tree and adding a pop of color to my art piece. It surprised me how much simple things back a difference. End the end, I created a piece I was proud of. I loved how it turned out. It was simple but reminded me of my childhood and I loved it. Unfortunately the wind ruined it to where I couldn't take a nice picture of the end result but I loved it no matter what. My earth art was not there when I returned a month later. I believe this is the case because of the winf and people walking over it. I wish it would have lasted because it is getting closer to Christmas time and It was a Christmas wreaths.
I developed art making skills. With this being my first time taking art since 7th grade, there are a lot of skills that I have either never been taught or never done before. Styrogami was definitely a new skill for me. I started this unit not knowing exactly what I wanted to create. This was solely based on me not knowing how to create art just from styrofoam. After I got over this, I just starting gluing different pieces of styrofoam together. Once I had three pieces put together, I saw mickey ears and knew exactly what I wanted to make. At this time, I was able to put together a sketch.
I took risk. I always believe I take risks when it comes to creating these projects. I am a beginner with big dreams so I must take risks to get my work done. I imagined having a mickey that could move his arms, had a crown, and was wearing his signature red overalls. I have only worked with styrofoam when it came to packing. Never have I looked at the materials provided and had to sculpt them. Every piece I put together was a risk due to me not knowing fully the direction or form I wanted my end product to be. I created original art. In the end, Mickey turned out to be totally different form what I expected. He was crowned with gold, had long arms, and hollow eye balls. I ended up loving my project and thought of it as an abstract version of Mickey mouse. I was extremely happy I was able to bring a piece of my childhood into my artwork. This video shows an innovative way of how to make things that people typically avoid fun. We all know that taking the stairs is usually isn't our first option when there is an escalator or elevator around. There is an experiment taking plane in this video. People thought if they made taking the stairs more fun, people would take the stairs more often. I can relate this theory to getting in shape. I find if I do more fun activities the workouts are easier to get through. Instead of sprinting alone, I bring a running partner or music along to make the workout go by faster. http://www.thefuntheory.com/piano-staircase I absolutely loved this video. Phil Hansen developed nerve damage in high school. In the beginning this deterred him from his dream. After some time he decided to overcome his limitation. He didn't let it stop him from doing what he loved. He found new ways to develop art. I found this video very helpful. I realized art is what you make it and there is no right or wrong. Art makes a person be more creative and push pass the limitations they think they may have. He learned to make little into a lot and overcame his limitations. My favorite part of the video was "Goodbye Art". Wanna check out this video? Click the link before.
http://www.ted.com/talks/phil_hansen_embrace_the_shake#t-583247 I communicated through my work. One of the things I am most excited about going to East Carolina University. In the beginning, I wanted my pumpkin to respect my future. My first inspiration was creating a pumpkin that looked like a pirate. For the whole semester, I have focused on making my work represent ECU in some way. This allowed me to show my excitement. I reflected. In the middle of creating my pumpkin I had a few set backs. At first, the purple I used was very streaky. With the help of Mrs. Schumann, I found a purple that wasn't very opaque like the first color. At this point I had to start over. I restarted and went in a different direction. I solved problems. After my stem broke off, I started a new pumpkin. I wanted this piece of art to go in a separate direction than the first. I became inspired by the color blue. After creating a blue base for my pumpkin, I knew what I wanted my end product to be. I envisioned a night sky draping over a city. At this point I immediately started working on a skyline. In the end i was happy with what I was able to accomplish in the time I did.
When this unit was first given to me, I had no clue what I wanted to accomplish. The choices that were presented to me seemed pretty farfetched for a beginning artist such as myself. To relieve some of my anxiety I reached out to multiple in the class and asked for help. Collaborating was very helpful to me. It helped me to get started with my assignment. I immediately went to internet resources to look for my ideas for my project. While working on this project lots of risk were taken on my part. I searched for multiple soft pastel tutorials on youtube. I looked through magazine and honestly it helped me a lot. The various art works that I liked were complex in my eyes. I still wanted to take a shot at it. My first work was of a sunset. I continued practicing more and more. I then got the idea of make several artworks that represent myself. I was lost with where to start but with the help from a trustee friend I was able to start my work. At the end of it all I was extremely happy with my last work of art. I developed art making skills during this unit. I learned how to research, implement, and use different skills. I learned more about shading and highlighting different pieces of my art work. I was proud of myself in the end and my last work of art. |
